Open Source is increasingly used in digital technologies and open source software business also plays a huge role in the European economy. Based on a study published 2021 by the European Commission on the impact of open source software (OSS) and open source hardware (OSH), the study estimates that open source software contributes between €65 to €95 billion to the European Union’s GDP and promises significant growth opportunities for the region’s digital economy. To achieve that, we should actively engage in a transition towards more openness in its political and investment culture.
The Future of Open Source Business track focuses on topics such as how to unlock the open source potential, presenting different open source strategies and business models and the value creation process of open source businesses. You will hear interesting case examples both from Finland and abroad. The program will also focus on open source in the public sector and EU context: how open source can accelerate national digital transformation initiatives and how it plays a significant role in Europe’s goals towards digital sovereignty, interoperability and sustainability.
