COSS, the Finnish Centre for Open Source Solutions, is organising
the 5th Openmind conference in association with the MindTrek
conference. Openmind 2008 will be held on MindTrek's workshop day on Tuesday October 7th in Tampere, Finland.
Openmind, a forward-looking international conference focusing on
openness in business, technology and innovation, is held annually in
Finland, the birthplace of Linux. Openmind is an open forum for 200 open source professionals, community members and academics.
The
conference opens new
horizons to software business and discusses the topical issues related
to open source business and technology. In the 2008 edition the key
conference themes are
- Open source - integration with software business
- Open mobile internet
- Open source powered government and public services

European public sector Open source initiatives presented in Openmind |

In the public sector track, several leading European open source initiatives will presented and discussed. The following programmes will be onboard:
- OSOR, the Open source observatory of IDABC of the European Commission
- The Open source and open standards policy programme of the Netherlands
- Code sharing practices in the Nordics.

The Open source results of OSKARI; the National Software Industry Survey 2008 will be announced in Openmind opening session by Nina Helander.
The annual Finnish Software Industry Survey is coordinated and implemented by the Software
Business Laboratory (TKK), the Software Product
Development Research Group of the University of Turku, and
Tampere University of Technology.
The survey's objective is to provide information about the current
situation of the Finnish software companies, the main focus being the
size and growth of the industry, as well as internationalization. In 2008 special attention has been given to use of open source and its business relevance. |

COSS member benefits and discounts |

COSS's member organisations have one registration free of charge for the Openmind conference. Members will recieve their registration code via e-mail.
There is also a group discount for member organisations. If you register five paying attendees you will get two of them for free. So five people for the cost of three! In these cases please send an email to sanna.heiskanen (at) coss.fi
All the Openmind attendees get a 10% discount for the MindTrek conference fees. So for example the fee for Wednesday (MindTrek) is 135 euros (+VAT 22%).

Propose a Lightning Talk for Openmind |

There is a sixty-minute time slot reserved for 5-minute Lightning Talks in the Openmind programme. Lightning talks are short presentations
designed to be a fun, interesting and compact way for many ideas to be
communicated in a short space of time. Openmind Team will select the talks that best
fit to the themes of Openmind 2008. The selected
presenters will get a free registration for the Openmind Conference. See the proposed lightning talks and propose a lightning talk here. |

The first version of the programme is now published. You can see it here. The programme consist of three sessions:
- Open
Source - Inside the Software Business
- Open Source for Mobile Internet
Services
- Open Public Service
All sessions will include a key note, focus presentations
and an interactive panel that is open for debate and Q&A. Please note that the programme is still preliminary and subject to updates and modifications. |
