Langaton Tampere

langatontampere.jpgLangaton Tampere (Wireless Tampere) is a wi-fi (WLAN) community implemented by Technopolis Ventures Professia and financed by the Creative Tampere programme. Other parties involved in enabling the wireless community in Tampere include the City of Tampere, the Tampere Chamber of Commerce and The Regional Organization of Enterprises in the Tampere Region, as well as schools, educational institutions and enterprises in the area. The community was launched in August 2007 and has since expanded to neighbouring municipalities. Wireless Tampere enables Internet use anytime and anywhere. It can be used free of charge by consumers, but businesses are liable to a charge.


COSS

COSS promotes the development and adoption of managed and sustainable open source solutions in various industries. COSS provides its members with high-quality business and competence development services and represents an emerging business community. The customers and members of COSS include more than 100 open source vendors, solution providers, developers and public and private organizations deploying and using open source solutions and innovation models.


City of Oulu

oulu.gifCity of Oulu is an active R&D partner with ICT-companies and Research Institutes

City of Oulu carries out defining, pilot testing and development of future´s public service processes in cooperation with local, national and international consortiums. At the same time City´s vision is to develop mechanisms how to offer public infrastructures and service processes to be used as a test bed for ICT-companies and research institutes and this way to run active economic politics too. As a stakeholder of these consortiums city gets place to be a forerunner when utilizing newest technology and this way provides the most modern public services to citizens.

  • SmartTouch, Oulu
    SmartTouch, the largest project in Europe to test NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, is seen and felt in many ways in Oulu. The city, businesses, and research institutions collaborate and technology developers, both those participating in the project and local technology companies have created something genuinely new and useful.

    As the City vision is to have the most advanced public services in the world, Oulu acts as a provider of a genuine pilot environment. Citizens have the opportunity to test extensive commercial and public services made possible by NFC such as parking, theatre, and services for senior citizens. SmartTouch City of Oulu -project has also taken NFC into school environment to serve pedagogical purposes.

    The three-year SmartTouch project is coordinated by VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) Oulu. It includes businesses and research institutions from eight European countries.

  • panOULU -free access to Wi-Fi network
    City of Oulu is widely known of its panOULU concept, in which people - visitors and residents - have free access to Wi-Fi network consists of over 1 000 access points around city centre, public places, schools and campus areas, etc. panOULU network has over 13 000 users per month and during 2008 it has been used by over 46 000 unique clients during period from January to September. panOULU is founded and administrated in lead of City of Oulu by co-operative consortium, which has members from private and public sector, including universities, private companies and several teleoperators.

    In October 2008 panOULU network will take a step ahead. New MobileWiMAX (802.16e) network with 13 base stations will be built in the city area. MobileWiMAX nertwork will be part of the panOULU network and will provide access to citizen's with no charge. panOULU Wi-Fi, panOULU mWiMAX together with Octopus network (2G/EDGE/3G) will provide special and unique wireless test environment in world scale to companies working with wireless communications and applications.
  • OMAOULU -Citizen´s portal
    In 2008, the city of Oulu inaugurated an open network service portal, OmaOulu.fi. The citizens portal offers citizens and organizations a set of new, centralized services assembled together in one place. The Citizens Portal service was to respond to the challenges of the city's service development, as well as to the information society's requirements regarding implementation of online services. It was also geared towards spawning new online services through providing the city administration with joint-use service modules as well as support components.Through solution, the city of Oulu set an example in utilizing an open source solution, as well as in promoting Finnish competitiveness, while following the policies defined by the EU Commission and by the Finnish state's strategy for the development of online government services. At the same time it offered its inhabitants a versatile set of services through functional and reliable network service that empowers citizens to use municipal services.

  • Technology Health care Centre Oulu as an product testing environment - case Oulu SelfCare Service, Oulu
    Health care Center Oulu is offering product testing and analyzing services to companies and research institutes. In the health care center the research, development and testing processes are included in the basic work.

    Oulu SelfCare service is one product that was tested in Technology Health Center Oulu. Nowadays this service is available to all citizens living in the district of Technology Health care Center and its use is spreading to all health centers in Oulu. Oulu SelfCare service includes citizen's own health card (personal health information, electronic messaging and appointments, laboratory results), web forms, applications and lots of information about medication, health, disease and nutrition. In addition the service offers possibility to save and mediate measuring results (PEF, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight) and diaries.
