Since 2009, Jacques Vermeulen has been Nokia’s Global Go To Market Lead for Smart Cities developing strategy, solutions, partnerships and business.
Jacques is passionate to tap into his ICT, digital video, Smart City eco-system and customer experience in order to help building a sustainable urban development. Prior to his current role, Jacques has been in business development for Alcatel-Lucent since 1998, in R&D for speech recognition, as well as ICT lead in the early 90’s for world’s first full digital audiovisual editing, production and television broadcast company. This was followed by business development and sales for these systems in Europe.
Jacques Vermeulen received the MS degree in Computer Science in 1990 and resides in Belgium. He speaks Dutch, English, French and German. Jacques is also Smart Cities working group member of Agoria (Industry Association).

Social, Economic, Environmental and Public Services sustainability are key drivers for Smart City implementations. These key drivers will evolve over time, hence the Smart City implementations today, need to have sustainability capabilities from the start.
