Tutorial
Rhythmic Blueprints: A tutorial for design and evaluation of rhythmic interaction(Thursday)
Despite its central role in interactive media, guidelines for designing and evaluating rhythmic interactions are hard to find. The primary objective of our tutorial is that the participants will learn the fundamentals of the design and evaluation of rhythmicity in ambient and ubiquitous multimodal mobile interaction.
The tutorial is organized by Cumhur Erkut and Antti Jylhä from the Aalto University. The target audience is the interaction specialists and software developers, who want to enhance their interactive applications with rhythmicity. A particularly suitable group is the mobile application developers. Students and general audience with background in HCI, interaction design, or audio signal processing are also welcome to attend.
In the tutorial, we first sensitize the participants to the interactive sound and rhythms in various scales. Then we will go through the fundamental structural elements of rhythms, including pulse, beat, meter, and tempo, as well as their perception. The next module will be an introduction of our model-based blueprinting approach. We will then analyze examples of design and evaluation of rhythmic interactions from the literature, as well as from our own studies. We will finally synthesize the emerging patterns into guidelines, so that the participants can make use of them in their own work.
You are invited to attend this tutorial. No additional fee required.
The participants are kindly requested to fill up an evaluation form after the tutorial at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHFhbkVTSUpfcEtzZHN6TjdpSjdJN1E6MA
Workshops
Green IT and Health(Wednesday)
Enterprises, communities and governments are tackling environmental issues and adopting environmentally sound practices. At the same time the use of information technology (IT) has exploded in several areas. IT has been contributing to environmental problems as well. There have been activities to reduce risks of IT in four areas: Green use, green disposal, green design and green manufacturing. However, some of these quick energy-saving activities have been very short-sighted, causing malfunction in devices and creating health problems for users of IT. Similarly, the uncontrolled growth of radiofrequency (RF) radiation in our environment has unexpected consequences. This workshop deals with these issues.
The workshop is open to all Mind Trek attendees.
For further submit information and template form, refer to information in the link below.

The Why and How of Open Education:
Service Concepts and Provider Perspectives(Friday)
This is a second workshop dedicated to advance the higher-level field of Open
Education (OE), featuring interactive sessions to gather, review and define OE service
concepts and practices. The organizing committee is now seeking highly motivated, critical
and active participants to help define suitable concepts, while contributing their own
experiences and lessons learnt. The workshop is open to all Mind Trek attendees; no further
registration is required.
